Alex Toohey has said he is targeting the 2025 NBA Draft, and won't nominate this year.

Sydney Kings Next Star Alex Toohey has confirmed he is keeping his focus firmly on NBL25, withdrawing his name from the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft.

Toohey was eligible to be drafted this year and surged into draft calculations early in the NBL season after a string of impressive performances for the Kings. At one point he was even considered a first-round prospect by The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie.

The 20-year-old appeared in all 29 games for the Kings last season, 25 of which came as starts in a packed forward rotation that included DJ Hogg, Kouat Noi, and recent Milwaukee signing Jaylin Galloway.

Toohey told The Canberra Times an extra season developing in the NBL will further his draft prospects next season.

"Talking to people around me and thinking what's best for me short and long-term, I've got a great situation with the Next Stars program in Sydney, so I'll stick it out with the Kings and the goal is hopefully I'll get picked next year,” Toohey said.

"I'm over in the States doing some off-season training now, but hopefully next year I'll declare for the draft.

"I definitely feel like my game has grown. I'm a lot more confident shooting three-pointers and being able to play different positions and guard the opposition's best players. There's a lot of areas I've taken a big step in and other areas I can polish next season.”
