Wells 'not satisfied' with start to season

Adelaide coach Mike Wells, while pleased with the 36ers' start to the Hungry Jack's NBL26 season, isn't satisfied.

Through the opening three rounds, Adelaide are 2-0, marking the club's best start to a season in more than a decade. That record can move to 3-0 if they outlast Tasmania tonight at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, which would represent the first time since the 2000-01 season the club has achieved that mark.

And while he admits this year's group has gelled quicker than expected due to their high IQs, he knows there is still plenty of room for growth for his outfit.

“I don't know if a coach is ever quite satisfied, right,” Wells said during Wednesday's club media availability.

“I mean, obviously, we're pleased with the early results. Our connection and where we are with such a new group, and obviously it's a better start than the alternative, so as long as we're kind of getting better every day and kind of moving forward is the goal.”

A part of that new group is import Nick Rakosevic, who will make his home debut during tonight's Round 4 fixture.

"[This is] a new group. It [cohesion] probably happened a little bit quicker than I anticipated, but you know, our commitment to what we're trying to do has been excellent, and our communication has been really good," second-year head coach Wells said.

"It hasn't been perfect, but we're trying to figure things out on the fly, and I think they've done a really good job of being open and accepting coaching and what we're trying to do and then listening to each other.

"We're trying to sync him [Rakosevic] with the group just like you always do whenever you add a new player in. It changes the chemistry a little bit. You're just trying to get him linked up with Z [Zylan Cheatham], Bryce [Cotton] and with DJ [Vasiljevic] and what those rotations look like and where he can impact the game."
