Talking points
Breakers on fire
The New Zealand Breakers finally got on the board for NBL26 Wednesday, and they did it in emphatic fashion, beating the reigning champions by 30 points.
After struggling to shoot the ball through their first four games, the Breakers caught fire in their Ignite Cup game, and everyone joined the party.
On the back of Parker Jackson-Cartwright’s historic 17 assists, can the Breakers continue to stay hot?
Fresh face for King
Wes Iwundu has been announced as the Phoenix’s newest signing, which completes Josh King’s team once again.
The former NBA forward, who has a strong defensive reputation, has the club excited for what he can contribute to the team.Alongside defensive beast John Brown III, they could form a nightmare duo on that end of the floor.
What they're saying
Breakers coach Petteri Kopenen after securing their first win of NBL26 on Wednesday:
"This [performance] is the identity we've been looking for [through the early part of the season]," Koponen said.
"[A big part of that] was getting this guy [Jackson-Cartwright] back, this was the first time it seemed like the old Parker with the pace and setting the tone.
"It was an amazing game [by him], finding teammates, getting into the paint and it was a very solid 40 minutes all-around."
Phoenix general manager of basketball operations Simon Mitchell on the signing of Wes Iwundu:
“Wes has some really impressive traits. Firstly, he’s a great athlete and a high-level defender. He has great length, a dogged determination and great lateral speed. He will also bring some perimeter marksmanship,” Mitchell said.
“He will fit into Coach King’s game style well and he’s as excited to get started as we are to welcome him to the Heartland.”
