Reset and rise: Galloway’s comeback gathers steam

"I think it was somewhat of a blessing in disguise."
In just seven months, Jaylin Galloway’s basketball journey took him from the high of signing with the Milwaukee Bucks to the low of being waived after only seven G League games, followed by a season-ending shoulder injury with the Sydney Kings.
It was a brutal swing of fortune in 2024, but Galloway isn’t dwelling on what went wrong.
At just 22, he’s clear-eyed about the future and grateful for the unexpected reset.
"That whole period, everything happened so fast from signing, to getting waived, to coming back to the Kings," he told basketball.com.au. "I didn’t expect any of it, so it definitely caught me by surprise."
But rather than spiral, Galloway saw the injury as a turning point.
"Even when I had the injury and surgery, I think it was somewhat of a blessing in disguise. It gave me time to slow everything down, get my mind right and my body right," he said.
"I didn’t take anything negative from it. It’s actually been a really positive step as I now focus on making this return."
Galloway has turned heads in NBL1 with the Bankstown Bruins, where he's averaged over 23 points and 6 rebounds per game in a strong return from injury.
And now, his rise continues as he gears up to represent the Australian Boomers at the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup in Saudi Arabia.
Then, he's set to return to the Kings ahead of September's tip-off, joining a star-studded lineup determined to chase an NBL championship.
"This is probably going to be one of my better seasons so I'm definitely excited for this season and hopefully can help me get back to where I want to be," Galloway added.
With renewed momentum, a return to the biggest stage in the world, the NBA, remains firmly in sight.
"After being waived by the Bucks, I can use that as extra motivation for sure and that's what I'll be doing," Galloway said.
"After having that bit of a taste of the NBA, I definitely want to get back there and I've learned those little steps that I need to improve on to take my game to the next level."
The path has been anything but linear, but that’s the nature of professional sport. Through it all, Galloway’s passion has never faded.
