Kings of redemption?

Wednesday, April 23, 2025
“There’s a formula to winning this thing."
Sydney Kings coach Brian Goorjian believes he’s well on the way to building a championship roster, following the acquisition of star import Kendric Davis.
Now with two of the best point guards in the league at his disposal, with Davis alongside Matthew Dellavedova, the Kings have gone above and beyond in fixing a glaring weakness from NBL25.
While a team dubbed as one of the most talented in NBL history ultimately fell way short last season, Goorjian says the changes they’ve made five months out from a new campaign are setting them up for success.
“When the season finished we identified what our issues were and we felt like the glass was half full, because we had so many key guys coming back who we were comfortable with on our roster,” he told Code Sports.
That list of returning stars includes Xavier Cooks, Shaun Bruce, Kouat Noi, Bul Kuol, Keli Leaupepe and Jaylin Galloway.
Add Dellavedova and Davis into that mix, and there’s the makings of a pretty powerful roster.
“There’s a formula to winning this thing. In my build and my history, I’m into the Australian content, building that out, and then putting the imports around it,” Goorjian said.
The import happens to come in the form of a former MVP runner-up, and the local core is impressive to say the least.
The Kings look in a great spot.
Now with just a local big man spot to fill, is redemption on the cards for Sydney?
