NBL expert Derek Rucker has called Tasmania's Bryce Hamilton 'a real stud' after his dominant first round.

Although Tasmania split their Hungry Jack’s NBL26 opening round fixtures, the performance of one particular player couldn’t have been much better.

That is, of course, Bryce Hamilton, who averaged 25 points, five rebounds and three assists, while shooting 62 per cent from the field against Melbourne (lost 88-84) and Perth (won 75-72).

That sentiment was reiterated by NBL expert Derek Rucker during the opening round episode of Moments That Mattered.

“[If I could redo my Top 15] Bryce would be in my top seven,” Rucker said on Moments That Mattered.

“The guy was outstanding [in round one] and the only reason I weighed him down [previously] was the fact he hadn’t played in the league and that he’s still a young pro.

“But after two games already, there are no signs that anyone can guard him effectively by anyone in this competition - this guy is a real stud.

“Had he not sustained that cramp against Melbourne United, I think Tasmania are 2-0.”

That sentiment was echoed by fellow NBL expert Pete Hooley, who had already labelled the University of Nevada Las Vegas alum as 'MVP material' leading into the season.

"As soon as they signed him [Hamilton], I was really high on what he could achieve, especially after watching him play the last couple of years and hearing the comments from people at this year's NBA Summer League," Hooley said.

"He's a stud and clearly they [Tasmania] have had conversations since the NBL Blitz about needing him to be more aggressive.

"He took over that game [against Perth] late, by breaking off plays and creating one-on-one - it was a beautful thing to watch."

Hamilton will get the chance to continue his hot form on Saturday, when the JackJumpers travel to Wollongong to face the Illawarra Hawks.

The Round 2 fixture tips off at 8pm AEST and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
