Could the Phoenix role appeal to a respected former Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach?

With the search on going for the South East Melbourne Phoenix’s next head coach, Hools is Hearing ... ex Lakers assistant Phil Handy is still very open to the possibility of coaching in the NBL.

Handy has been on record previously about his desire to coach in the NBL, if the situation was right. Could the Phoenix role appeal to the respected former Los Angeles NBA assistant?

Throughout the last decade of his NBA coaching career, Handy has kept close tabs on everything in the NBL and speaks very highly of the trajectory of Australian basketball.

It would be somewhat of a full circle moment if Handy was to one day return to the NBL, where he last played for the West Sydney Razorbacks in 2002. Since then, he's been an assistant at the Lakers, Cavaliers, Raptors and then the Lakers once again, up until last season.

A three-time NBA champion, Handy is no stranger to Melbourne basketball, including multiple trips in recent years to help United during pre-season.

It may not be easy to get done, but it would be a massive coup for any club to be able to secure the services someone with a resume like Handy.
