Full throttle Wildcats target first W

The Perth Wildcats will look to push the pace and lift their shot volume when they meet the New Zealand Breakers.
The Perth Wildcats will go on the NBL’s longest trip this weekend in search of their first win of the Hungry Jack’s NBL Season.
Fresh off a tight home loss to Tasmania, the Wildcats will take on the New Zealand Breakers at Spark Arena on Saturday, with both sides desperate to chalk up their first win of the new campaign.
To do so, Wildcats coach John Rillie, who is in his fourth season with the West Australian franchise, has emphasised the importance of pushing the pace.
“The way we played the other day, there’s a lot of disappointment within the group,” Rillie said during the club’s media availability.
“The pace and our style of play was not the way we’re trying to get to - the players want to rectify the way that we performed.
“What did we have? 67 field goal attempts the other day. That’s really slow for us. We want to be in the 80s, low 90s.”
Echoing his coach’s thoughts was import wing Dylan Windler, who’s spent time in the NBA with Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks.
“We’re all trying to come together and be the best group we can be,” Windler, who’s expecting a desperate Breakers team, said.
“We know, with the group we have this season, it’s going to be a team-effort every night, with there being four or five guys, who on any given night, could go off for 20+.
“It’s definitely that, ‘by committee’ approach, compared to having that one focal point last year, that averages close to 25.”
Saturday’s Round 2 fixture tips off at 5.30pm AEST, broadcast live on ESPN.
