7am training sessions have become the secret to Jaylin Galloway’s transformation, turning him from mentally and physically broken to one of the Boomers’ Asia Cup standouts.

Sydney Kings coach Brian Goorjian says he couldn’t be prouder of Jaylin Galloway’s transformation, after the star forward returned from the NBA “mentally and physically broken.”

It’s hardly surprising, given the whirlwind five months that saw Galloway sign a dream NBA two-way contract, only to be waived and have those dreams cut short.

The setback was compounded by a season-ending shoulder injury on his return to the NBL, but Galloway now calls that moment a “blessing in disguise”, using the time to reset and refocus.

The progress since then has been remarkable.

Galloway rebuilt his confidence with a standout NBL1 campaign and is now shining on the international stage at the FIBA Asia Cup.

The 22-year-old’s rise comes from relentless work, according to Goorjian.

“Jaylin and Xavier (Cooks) have been like a team working together during their 7am sessions,” Goorjian told Code Sports. “They’ve put the hard yards in. Running every day, lifting every day, shooting.

“They both targeted the Asia Cup. A new coach on the national team, a new opportunity, so I’m really happy for both of them.”

Goorjian says Galloway is in the best shape of his career and primed for a big Hungry Jack’s NBL26 season.

He’s averaged 20 points per game for the Boomers in Saudi Arabia, capped by a game-high 24 against Qatar in the final group match.

That effort drew huge praise from NBL expert and former champion Damon Lowery.

“I'm running out of adjectives. I'm literally shaking my head in disbelief at how good this dude is playing,” Lowery said on NBL Now.

“I don't know how you guard him. He's making his twos, his threes. You run at him, you try to run him off the line, he just sidesteps and shoots another three. Then he freezes you. And because his first step is literally nitroglycerin, he blows by you.

“An unbelievable tournament so far Jaylen's having. As long as his health stays 100 per cent, we are looking at a very, very special NBL 26 season out of him."
