Tasmania’s new scoring weapon

"Bryce just had the M.O. of a scorer and continues to grow."

From Nevada to the pros in the G League, Greece and Germany, Bryce Hamilton has one constant: putting points on the board.

In his latest outing, he poured in 45 points during a high-stakes Play-In clash.

It’s no wonder Tasmania JackJumpers coach Scott Roth is eager to bring the 24-year-old into the fold this season.

“Bryce just had the M.O. of a scorer and continues to grow,” Roth said on Monday.

“He was a monster in the German league this year. He's got a lot of ceiling left in him that we're going to try to push into.”

Hamilton and fellow import David Johnson step into roles once held by two of the JackJumpers' most iconic figures. Milton Doyle and Jordon Crawford weren’t just champions, they were the faces of a title-winning era.

Their legacy is already cemented as foundational figures in the club’s early success story.

But now comes the new generation.

“I think David Johnson's coming in about 10 days or less, and Bryce is right behind him. They're very excited and hungry to play,” Roth said.

“This will be David Johnson's first experience overseas. He's had some FIBA background here and there and 3-on-3 tournaments, but he's excited to really see what it's all about.”

Like Hamilton, Johnson brings solid G League credentials to the table, racking up 123 games with Raptors 905 and the Memphis Hustle.

“The biggest thing with those two guys is we got two really high-character guys that fit the culture about defending the island. They know full well what they're coming into and what's going to be demanded from them,” Roth continued.

Josh Bannan (Brisbane), Nick Marshall (Adelaide) and Ben Ayre (South East Melbourne) headline a wave of new additions in Tasmania, as veterans like Clint Steindl (retired) and Fabijan Krslovic (now with Melbourne United) move on, ushering in a clear changing of the guard.

After building success through continuity, the JackJumpers return with a retooled roster and renewed hunger for another title run.

But as they say, the more things change, the more they stay the same - and with NBL24 champion Sean Macdonald leading the charge, the new-look JackJumpers remain in steady hands.

“We're excited to have Seany back in a much bigger role,” Roth said.

“We've built some of the team around him being our starting point guard. We're going to give him the keys to the car and see if he can drive it.

“We're going to put some really good pieces around him. He's ready for the next move.”

Macdonald is ready to embrace the challenge, with the Blitz in Canberra now just weeks away.

“Yeah, it's definitely exciting,” he said.

“It's always going to be a team effort out there, but to have an extended role and get a bit more opportunity to improve and be a better player is really cool.”
