"This innovation is incredibly exciting for our game and sport in general."

The Australian National Basketball League (NBL) is partnering with some powerful allies in NEP, the world’s largest broadcast services provider, and EVS Belgium, the leader in live replay technology, to revolutionise its broadcast for the Hungry Jack’s NBL season with the introduction of AI-powered EVS XtraMotion.

XtraMotion is a Super Slow-Motion service that can transform any standard live camera into a Super Slow-Motion camera, offering unparalleled replay quality and coverage from all angles.

This groundbreaking technology, a first for Australia and New Zealand sports broadcasting, positions the NBL at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge broadcast technology.

“We are always looking at new ways to bring our fans who are watching games on TV or other devices closer to the action and this innovation is incredibly exciting for our game and sport in general,” NBL Chief Content & Media Officer Heath O’Loughlin said.

“There’s no better way to watch a replay of a huge dunk or exciting play in Super-Slo Motion and XtraMotion guarantees we won’t miss a single moment.

“We want to thank our partners NEP and EVS Belgium for their incredible support and work in bringing XtraMotion to Australian and New Zealand sports audiences for the first time and helping to significantly enhance our coverage.”

Manny Papas, VP of Global Sales at NEP Group, believes it’s only a matter of time before other sports follow in the NBL’s footsteps.

"This is a game-changer for how tier-one sports will be covered in the future,” he said.

“We are thrilled to bring this AI-powered innovation to the NBL, which continues to lead the way in sports broadcasting in Australia and the world.”

Olivier Heurteaux, Senior Vice President APAC EVS, strongly believes the addition of XtraMotion is a massive win for NBL fans.

"We are thrilled to partner with NBL and NEP to integrate our XtraMotion solution into their broadcasts,” he said.

“Leveraging years of expertise Generative AI and computer vision, XtraMotion will enhance the viewing experience by delivering more emotional and powerful coverage to NBL fans.

“We deeply appreciate the trust NBL and NEP have placed in us and look forward to elevating the excitement of every game."
