McVeigh: "I blacked out"

Tuesday, March 26, 2024
Jack McVeigh says he has "absolutely no idea" what happened in the immediate aftermath of his game-winner.
Jack McVeigh’s game-winning shot and the immediate aftermath will live long in the memory of all who witnessed it on Sunday night. Except for the man himself.
Tasmania secured a Game 3 victory in its Championship Series against Melbourne and now have the opportunity to secure title glory in front of a raucous MyState Bank Arena crowd, in a moment that has been potentially labelled as one of the greatest in Australian history by Derek Rucker.

With eight seconds on the clock and Melbourne possessing both the ball and a one-point margin, all hope looked lost for the JackJumpers.
Enter McVeigh, who hit one of the greatest shots in NBL history, just as he dribbled over the half-court.
“To be honest, I’ve got almost absolutely no idea what happened ... I thought they (United) were going to call a time-out, but they didn’t have one. All of a sudden I was chucking the ball," McVeigh told News Corp.
“Next thing you know I was getting tackled by the team, so absolutely no idea what happened ... I blacked out.”
Game 4 of the Championship Series between Tasmania and Melbourne will tip off at 7:30pm AEDT on Thursday night, live on ESPN via Kayo.
