Former NBL MVP Jaylen Adams shares insights on his move to the Brisbane Bullets, his fresh start, and why he’s confident about the team’s direction ahead of the Code Sports NBL Blitz.

Former NBL MVP Jaylen Adams won’t have to wait long for a reunion with his old side, as the Brisbane Bullets prepare to face the Sydney Kings at the Blitz next week.

“I’m not a super emotional guy, so I really couldn’t care less,” Adams told Code Sports about the highly anticipated matchup against his old squad.

The 29-year-old reflected on the end of last season, when a Kings team widely tipped for the championship suffered a shock exit in the first Play-In game.

“The last conversation that I had with the club was, ‘keep in touch,’ and I always take those kind of sayings with a grain of salt,” he said about finishing up NBL25 with the Kings. “I didn’t really speak to anyone during that time and it just became one of those things where you start to realise you are going to be doing something different.”

It wasn’t the ending the 2022 NBL champion and MVP had imagined with the Kings, after enjoying so much success during his first stint with the club.

Still, with change comes opportunity, and Adams has embraced the chance for a fresh start.

He spent the off-season with Al Ahli Tripoli in Libya while weighing up his next move in an already impressive professional career. That opportunity arrived in July when the Brisbane Bullets came calling with a pitch he couldn’t turn down.

Adams said he liked “the direction the club was heading in” and believes Brisbane is the right fit at this stage of his journey.

The Bullets have built an exciting roster around him, adding emerging Australian talent Alex Ducas and former G League star Javon Freeman-Liberty, alongside established names like Tyrell Harrison, Casey Prather and Sam McDaniel.

Now it’s up to the Bullets and Adams to back it up on court, with the Code Sports Blitz set to get underway in Canberra next week.
