"It’s coming (retirement), but I’m just living in the moment, and I hope I keep this [job] for a while."

He’s handed over the reins at the Australian Boomers and open about the fact the Sydney Kings coaching job will be his last, so what better way to celebrate an incredible career than winning a seventh NBL championship?

Brian Goorjian knows expectations are high on the Sydney Kings’ star-studded roster, with the league the strongest it's ever been, but says the chance to coach again in the NBL is “beyond my wildest dreams”.

“We’ve done an amazing job of putting it [together] and now what we’re trying to do as an organisation, on and off the court,” Goorjian told The Sydney Morning Herald

“All my energy is towards this, I’m really excited about this first-year team, what it can be, and I’m excited about the strength of the league and where the NBL is going.”

Goorjian has already coached one of Australia’s most famous clubs to three championships.  A fourth would be the ultimate icing on the cake of a coaching career spanning more than 35 years.

“I’m going to coach until I’ve lost my passion,” Goorjian continued.

“But ... you don’t coach forever. It’s coming (retirement), but I’m just living in the moment, and I hope I keep this [job] for a while.”

The Kings are hot-favourites to win their third championship in four seasons, with the return of Xavier Cooks and Jaylin Galloway, alongside the recruitment of Cam Oliver and Bul Kuol rounding out an intimidating roster.

They tip off their season on Sunday at 2.30pm AEST against the Adelaide 36ers, live on ESPN via Kayo.
