Finn’s first fight in Melbourne’s fiercest rivalry

Finn Delany makes his Throwdown debut as Melbourne’s cross-town rivalry heats up.
While there have been 29 Throwdowns to date, between Melbourne and South East Melbourne, tonight will mark Finn Delany’s first involvement in the fierce rivalry.
During Melbourne’s media availability this week, the New Zealand international explained he was excited to take part in the contest he’d heard so much about.
“All the boys have told me how intense these games get,” Delany said, whose United team have won 19 of the 28 Throwdowns to date.
“Anytime you play in a cross-town rivalry, there’s always a little bit extra in there, especially for the fans.
“It’s a rivalry that already has so much history and I’m really looking forward to getting a taste of it [on Thursday].”
Echoing the nine-year NBL veteran’s comments was head coach Dean Vickerman, who has been a part of all 29 Throwdowns to date.
"They [South East Melbourne] were great against Cairns, especially their pressure and ability to create turnovers, so we're really looking forward to this contest," Vickerman said.
"We want that thing [John Cain Arena] packed out and our fans to really celebrate the good things we do in the game."
The Round 2 clash tips off at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday night, live on ESPN.
