Emus escape in double OT v Cameroon

The Australian Emus have beaten Cameroon after a dramatic double overtime clash at the Under-19 FIBA World Cup.
The Australian Emus had some unexpected help to get to overtime but eventually Roman Siulepa and Dash Daniels were huge as they overcame Cameroon 101-96 in a dramatic double overtime clash at the Under-19 FIBA World Cup.
It was the second game day at the U19 World Cup in Switzerland with Cooly Arena in Lausanne playing host to an Emus team trying to bounce back from a first up loss to the USA while Cameroon went down to France.
After Cameroon were leading by one at quarter-time, the Emus worked on top in the second quarter with 26 points to 19, and then opened up a game-high 11-point lead midway through the third quarter.
It was in the fourth quarter where the drama really started with Cameroon going on a 13-0 scoring run to be up four with four minutes to play.
Cameroon were then up six with 1:25 to play and it did appear the Emus were just about down and out until they got some unexpected help from the most unlikely source.
Cameroon passed the ball in from the baseline but instead of working the ball up the floor, Amadou Seini dunked it in Australia's basket. That score counted to bring the Emus back within four.
Eventually they forced Cameroon into another turnover and this time Jacob Furphy found Alex Dickeson who drained the three ball just before the buzzer to tie scores up.
Again Cameroon got up six in the first overtime before Dash Daniels knocked down a three ball in the final minute to keep the Emus close enough to strike.
Dickeson then repeated the dose with another triple to tie scores up inside the last 30 seconds and that's where scores would stay for a second extra period.
This time Australia worked on top with Roman Siulepa's strong work attacking the basket and then a huge three ball from Daniels with a minute to play ended up sealing the five-point win after 50 minutes.
Dash Daniels made two huge threes when they mattered most with the Melbourne United NBL Next Star delivering 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Former NBL Next Star Roman Siulepa was a powerhouse with 22 points and 13 rebounds while Jacob Furphy added 18 points, three boards and three assists, and Alex Dickeson 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Goc Malual added eight points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks, and Che Brogan eight points and four steals.
Gedeon Basson finished with 24 points and eight rebounds for Cameroon with Franck Belbi adding 29 points and Amadiu Seini 15 points and 24 rebounds.
The U19 World Cup now has a rest day on Monday before Australia plays France on Wednesday morning 1:15am AEST.
