Brisbane's big plans

Wednesday, April 16, 2025
“Angus Brandt is a name I’ve been told they’ve reached out too…. Mangok Mathiang is another name I’ve been told.”
The Brisbane Bullets have most of their starting group already locked in for next season and have now begun the search to strengthen some of their bench unit.
“When Tyrell Harrison went down with concussion and Rocco Zikarsky was injured, they just had no juice at the five spot,” ESPN’s Olgun Uluc said on The Marketplace.
“Having a reliable backup to Harrison is something that is really important to this team.”
Angus Brandt or Mangok Mathiang? 🤔

Harrison had a massive impact for the Bullets last season, which started at the Blitz when he won the Ray Borner Trophy as the MVP.
Unfortunately for him and the Bullets, Harrison only featured in 20 games because of a nasty concussion that lingered for weeks at a crucial point during the Playoff push for them.
Now, Brisbane has turned its attention to having a plan in place so that they aren’t exposed in that area again.
“They know they need to fill that backup five spot, with someone who is somewhat proven,” Uluc added.
“Angus Brandt is a name I’ve been told they’ve reached out too…. Mangok Mathiang is another name I’ve been told.”
Brandt, who is currently playing in the B2 League in Japan, turns 36 next season and hasn’t featured in the NBL since 2019.
According to Pete Hooley, locking in a key veteran local like Brandt “makes perfect sense.”
“Angus Brandt would be great. That big body to come in and play those 20 odd backup minutes,” he said.
“As Tyrell Harrison continues to get better and better each year. You can really load up behind him and help push their team forward.”
