Star import returns to Brisbane

The Brisbane Bullets have re-signed US import Javon Freeman-Liberty for the rest of the NBL26 season.
Just six weeks after leaving the Brisbane Bullets, star import Javon Freeman Liberty is re-signing with the club.
The Bullets announced on Tuesday that Freeman-Liberty, who was granted a mutual release in October, will sign with the club as an injury replacement for the rest of the Hungry Jack's NBL26 season.
This comes less than a week after the Bullets lost Casey Prather (knee) and Jaylen Adams (release).
Brisbane Bullets CEO Mal Watts said Freeman-Liberty returns with a renewed intensity that will make him dangerous on the floor.
“It was tough for Javon to open up to us about his wellbeing and I’m grateful he trusted our club enough to do that and to seek the support he needed," Watts said.
“What makes me most proud is that he chose Brisbane as the environment where he feels safe, supported and ready to thrive.
“Javon has put in a large amount of work over the past six weeks so he’s in a much stronger position to return.
“I truly believe we’re about to see Javon Freeman Liberty at his best yet."
Freeman-Liberty reconnected with teammates in recent weeks, initiating conversations with players and staff and reaffirming his desire to contribute to the team in the right way.
Captain Mitch Norton said he and Freeman-Liberty had an honest conversation about how his exit affected the group and he’s pleased to see the US guard in a better headspace now.
“Javon was really honest about what he went through and the steps he’s taken since leaving. That takes courage,” Norton said.
“We know how talented he is, he can score, defend, and bring a spark that shifts momentum.”
Freeman-Liberty, who averaged 19 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds during his two appearances this season, would join reported signing Terry Taylor on Stu Lash's roster for the remainder of the 2025-16 season.
Brisbane, who are 5-9 on the season, host South East Melbourne on Thursday from 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
