The Tasmania JackJumpers have re-signed championship-winning guard Sean Macdonald to a one-year deal.

In a tale of resilience and faith, the Tasmania JackJumpers have re-signed guard Sean Macdonald to a one-year deal, keeping him at the club until the end of the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 season.

2023-24 champion Macdonald has only appeared in nine NBL games for the JackJumpers over the past two seasons, following long-term ankle and ACL injuries.

Now, the 25-year-old is “bigger, stronger and faster than ever before”, according to JackJumpers Coach Scott Roth.

“Sean’s comeback is a living, breathing example of our culture of grit and grind; it’s one for the books that’s for sure,” Roth said.

“It’s a great credit to Seany, he’s worked hard every single day, and that takes great fortitude.

“He’s been here with us since day one of our journey, and he’s such a valuable part of our program.

“He can play multiple positions, is a great connector for us, and is a top-tier leader as well.

“Having Sean back on the court for us for another season is great news, and the fact that he’s bigger, stronger and faster than ever before is a great bonus too.”

Macdonald, who first joined the JackJumpers in their inaugural 2020-21 season as a Development Player, is excited to repay the JackJumpers’ faith on the court next season.

“It’s been an intense time, but you find your silver lining too,” Macdonald said.

“I’ve been able to use this time to rebuild my body and strength without the demands of game play and training, and the result is that I feel stronger than I did pre-injury.

“I just can’t wait to get back on court and show my appreciation to everyone who has supported me through my recovery.

The club and our fans have put a huge amount of faith in me during the recovery process, and I want to reward that on the court this season.

Macdonald joins Josh Bannan, Nick Marshall, Ben Ayre, Kobe Williamson and Archie Woodhill under contract for the JackJumpers next season.
