Perth Wildcats superstar Bryce Cotton has provided an update on his Australian citizenship status, saying he is still waiting to hear back from the government.

It was reported Cotton almost became a citizen in time for the Tokyo Olympics last year, but since then, progress has halted on the three-time MVP’s paperwork.

“Obviously if that could ever happen, I'd be honoured, but as far as what's the go on the citizenship, I have no idea,” Cotton told SEN.

“It just seems like a big waiting game all this time. So, I really don't even think about it anymore because I have no clue.

“Considering I heard how close it was last year, I would have thought by now something would have (happened) but same old.”

Despite the long waiting game, Cotton has emphasised how honoured he would be to represent the Australian Boomers.

“That would be huge, obviously. Playing for a country I'm not even from, what a huge honour that would be for them to want me to help represent,” he said.

“To be able to put Olympian on your resume as well. That's not something a lot of people get to do. So, it'd be a huge honour and probably one of the top things on my list as far as accomplishments, if it ever happened.”
