The Australian Gangurrus women’s team are through to the final four of the 2026 FIBA 3x3 World Cup in Poland.
After finishing second in Pool A, the Gangurrus, coached by 2001 NBL champion Damon Lowery, were pitted against China in the Play-In stage of the tournament.
Behind 9 points from Olympian Amy Atwell, the Gangurrus prevailed 21-11 to progress to the quarter-finals.
In the final eight, Australia, which also features Olympian Marena Whittle, newly signed Townsville Fire wing Emma Clarke and incoming Southside Melbourne Flyers forward Hannah Hank, took on Ukraine for a spot in the semi-finals.
In that fixture, Whittle was the star, finishing with 8 points and 10 rebounds to guide the Gangurrus to a convincing 21-10 victory.
Lowery’s side will now play the Netherlands in the semi-finals on Sunday (5pm AEST) for a spot in the gold medal game.
The other women’s semi-finals sees the United States battle Azerbaijan.
These finals matches will be broadcast live on Kayo Sports and the FIBA YouTube Channel.
Australia’s men’s side, containing new Perth Wildcat Alex Higgins-Titsha, former Cairns Taipans Lachlan Barker and Jonah Antonio, and NBL24 champion Jarred Bairstow, coached by Adam Forde, did not qualify for the finals.
