United's new ultra competitive guard

"Whatever it takes to win, that’s what I’ll do.”
Melbourne United’s new dynamic import guard, Tyson Walker, is ready to make a big impact in his first overseas professional opportunity.
Speaking on NBL Now, the 24-year-old spoke about what attracted him into coming to Australia.
“I’ve seen the league help guys get to a lot of places - not just the NBA, but strong teams in Europe, too.
“The style of play is appealing. Every game looks competitive, big crowds… fans who care. I just want to be part of that.”
Walker played for the Texas Legends previously, having finished a strong college career at Michigan State, where he was a two-time, second-team All-Big Ten and a Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.
The Spartans basketball program is one of the most respected in the collegiate system, largely due to their head coach Tom Izzo.
“Coach is tough but he’s amazing. He prepares you for everything,” Walker said about his relationship with Izzo.
“From how you play to how you carry yourself; you become a professional early. You’ve got to be ready because everyone’s watching.”
Walker might only be listed at 6’1”, but the lightning quick guard says it’s his competitiveness that sets him apart on the court. Something that he learnt from growing up in New York.
“It’s always competitive. You’ve got to bring your game every time," he said.
“There’s basketball on every corner… you don’t have to search for it. Just walk a couple of blocks and you’ll find a run.
“I’m a competitor. I want to win. Whatever it takes to win, that’s what I’ll do.”
Walker is due to touchdown in Melbourne later this week, with United fans eager to get a glimpse of their new backcourt star.
When asked about if he’s looking forward to the matchups with some of the league’s best guards in Bryce Cotton, Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Jaylen Adams, Walker’s answer was simple.
“Absolutely. You always want to go up against the best to see where you’re at.”
