Bullets farewell three-time NBL champion

Casey Prather's tenure in Brisbane is officially over, after the club thanked the star for his services on Wednesday.

The three-time NBL champion played three seasons with the Brisbane Bullets, including being named to the All-NBL Second Team during the 2024-25 Season.

“From all the moments on the floor to the tremendous impact off it,” the Bullets said in a statement. “Thank you for everything you have given the Bullets and the Brisbane community.”

This message comes after the Bullets locked in their third and final import on Wednesday morning, announcing Jaylin Williams has joined the club on a one-year deal.

The US forward joins Nate Hinton and Arnas Velička as imports on Will Weaver’s side for the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 Season.

In terms of what’s next for the 2016-17 All-NBL First Team selection, ESPN’s Olgun Uluc explained that there is still reported interest for the forward around the League.

“When I speak to teams, there are some teams who bring up his name, of course,” Uluc said on NBL Marketplace, presented by Paywise, last week.

“He’s a high-level scorer, shooter in the NBL. He’s a good teammate; he knows the league … all these things absolutely matter.

“It’s whether teams opt to go in a different direction.

“Do they go younger? Do they go for a different need potentially? These are all the things that teams are considering.”

Uluc could also see a world where the 35-year-old is a mid-season signing for a club, which paid dividends for clubs like Sydney, Adelaide and South East Melbourne with Torrey Craig, John Jenkins and Ian Clark last season.

“I’m curious, if let’s say he doesn’t get a gig … he enjoys being in Australia, does he hang around and maybe he is an Ian Clark type?

“Can he join a team in the middle of a season?”

Clark, who most recently played for the South East Melbourne Phoenix, has joined NBL teams mid-season in recent years to strengthen their championship pushes.

“If a team cuts an import, which we saw numerous times last season, can Casey Prather be there for you to swoop up?” Uluc continued.

“If come December you need to make a change for one reason or another ... you have someone there who is super functional as an offensive player in the NBL, someone who knows the league and there’s no onboarding with someone like Casey Prather.

“I look at Casey Prather as the ultimate mid-season mercenary.

“You can bring him in, and he might be the guy who wins you a couple games and that gets you over the top.”

Across his seven seasons in the NBL, Prather played 134 games, averaging 18 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
