WNBL: On fire! Townsville claims inaugural Tip-Off

The Fire held Geelong to just seven first-quarter points and ran out 81-54 winners
From WNBL.com.au.
After three electric days of elite women's basketball, the inaugural WNBL Townsville Tip Off '25 came down to the wire, with Townsville Fire declared winners after the final game of the event.
In front a home crowd, the Fire showcased their class all weekend, with contributions from across the board catapulting them to success.
In their first game of the tournament, Townsville defeated Sydney, 96-75, as Miela Sowah (16 points, five rebounds and three assists) and Courtney Woods (15 points and five assists) shone bright.
On Sunday, with title honours on the line, the Fire held Geelong to just seven first-quarter points and ran out 81-54 winners as every player scored and Chantel Horvat (15 points, nine rebounds and three steals) led all scorers.
Boasting four Opals squad members in Courtney Woods, Alex Fowler, Abbey Ellis and Miela Sowah, the star-studded Fire team is led by five-time WNBL Coach of the Year Shannon Seebohm.
Townsville enter the regular season in fine form, looking to go one better than last season when they fell to the Bendigo Spirit in the Grand Final Series.
With all eight WNBL teams coming together in Townsville to play games over three action-packed days, it was a weekend of pre-season basketball to remember as we prepare for WNBL26, which tips off on October 18th with the Southside Melbourne Flyers taking on the Canberra Capitals at John Cain Arena.
