“I’m never going to sit here and say the media drove him to playing well because that’s silly to think that."

Anyone who believes Kendric Davis used recent media criticism as his motivation to turn around his slow start to the season should think again, according to former South East Melbourne Phoenix big man Alan Williams.

Davis was challenged by ESPN’s Olgun Uluc and NBL analyst Derek Rucker after the first two rounds, but bounced back with 21 points, 7 assists and 4 steals against the Phoenix and 32 points against the Hawks, helping the 36ers to two big wins.

“Obviously we [players] are going to read the stuff but there’s no element of, ‘Oh I need to make sure that I play well so that Derek Rucker or Olgun tell me that I’m doing well’, because that’s crap,” Williams declared on NBL Now.

“I’m never going to sit here and say the media drove him to playing well because that’s silly to think that.

“It’s all on his own merit and his own work that he is going to be able to be successful.”

Williams continued saying it takes time for new imports to adjust to the NBL.

Adelaide hosts the Sydney Kings on Friday night at 7:30pm AEDT live on ESPN.
