Tassie inks local talent to development player deal

Tuesday, August 1, 2023
Tasmania has signed local talent Jacob Richards on a development player deal.
Following the departures of contracted NBL24 development player Tre Armstrong and Josh Tomasi ahead of the new season, the Tasmania JackJumpers have signed local talent Jacob Richards for NBL24.
Richards has been an active participant in the JackJumpers’ program over the past two seasons as a train-on player, and averaged 13.2 points per game for the Hobart Chargers in NBL1 South this past campaign.
He was also named as the Chargers’ Coaches Award recipient for his performances.
Tasmania head coach Scott Roth said the 22-year-old personifies what it means to be a JackJumper.
“This kid has been showing up every day for two years with no expectations for a spot, and he just gives everything,” Roth said.
“He came to me to ask to train again this season – again with no expectations – and he continues to challenge these guys, embrace our values, and just be a really valuable guy both on and off the floor.
“I think he wholeheartedly deserves this and I’m really pleased he can now call himself a true JackJumper.
“It was emotional for him, and for me as well. I’m really proud of him.”
“It’s a dream come true, I’m really proud of the work I’ve put in over the last two years and I’m really excited to continue to grow with the group,” Richards added.
“It’s something I’ll never forget and I’m excited to go to work and truly feel part of the club.”
Tasmania’s NBL24 campaign will tip off against the Perth Wildcats on Friday, September 29.
