As the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 Free Agency continues to heat up, one of the biggest question marks relates to who will be coaching a number of the teams.

In recent days, ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reported that Melbourne United’s Dean Vickerman “has a head coach opportunity in Japan” that he is currently weighing up.

So much so, United and Vickerman are in “active talks regarding a potential release from the remainder of his contract”.

If that does progress, Melbourne would become the third team with a head coaching vacancy heading into the NBL27 Season, joining the New Zealand Breakers and Cairns Taipans.

Although Uluc also reports that Adam Forde remains firmly in the mix for a return to the latter.

In terms of the Breakers, on the latest episode of The Marketplace, presented by Paywise, Uluc reports that New Zealand are nearing a coaching hire.

“They're currently without a head coach, and Mody Moar is not someone who's on their list anymore. He's going to pursue other things,” Uluc said on The Marketplace, presented by Paywise.

“This [situation] feels like they're somewhat close. They're speaking to candidates right now, and some candidates are quite exciting.

“If they're able to get one of those guys over the line, then that's something that we're tracking.

“I'm hopeful that something like that gets done within the next week or two.”

As it stands, whoever coaches the Breakers in NBL27 will have Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Sam Mennenga, newly signed Dejan Vasiljevic, Reuben Te Rangi and Izayah Le’Afa on their roster.
