Wildcats race to lock in final import

The Perth Wildcats are racing to secure their final import signing before the NBL26 season begins, with the hunt for a starting point guard critical to completing their roster.

The Perth Wildcats have stayed patient in their hunt for their final import, but with just three weeks until Round 1, time is running out.

The crucial starting point guard role remains open, but Wildcats General Manager of Basketball Operations Danny Mills says a decision is close.

“Obviously September 20 is game one so it will be sooner rather than later. We are hard at work and will find the right guy that’s going to complement the rest of the roster that we’ve got,” Mills told The West Australian.

“We are searching for someone that will fit what we already have. The way we play at both ends won’t change on who we bring in. That player will fit into the current group we’ve got.”

Losing Bryce Cotton in the off-season was a significant setback, but Perth has strengthened with the major addition of Jo Lual-Acuil Jr, along with former 36ers Lat Mayen and Sunday Dech.

They also secured the return of Ben Henshall, which once seemed unlikely with strong college interest in play.

“We’ve got a lot of depth,” Mills said.

“We’ve got a number of different players who can step up on different nights which is exciting.

“If you look at our roster, I think in every position we are deep. I’ve got a really good feeling that our bench will provide us with a lot of depth.”

The Wildcats open their Hungry Jack’s NBL26 campaign on September 20 with a home clash against the Tasmania JackJumpers.
