Talking points

Ignite Cup preview
In just over one week, Adelaide and New Zealand will lock horns in the inaugural NBL Ignite Cup Final on the Gold Coast.

While Saturday’s Round 21 fixture doesn’t have any bearing on the result itself, whoever wins this fixture will get a huge confidence boost going into the February 22 fixture.

Expect the mind games between the two sides to start now and run until next Sunday.

Top two goals
For the majority of the season, Adelaide has sat in first place, with it looking inevitable that they were going to finish in the top two at the end of the regular season.

The 36ers now sit in second, and if they don’t continue to chalk up wins, South East Melbourne will leapfrog them.

The importance of finishing in the top two can not be understated, taking teams straight to the Playoffs and avoiding the Play-In, not to mention holding home court.

What they're saying

36ers coach Mike Wells on playing the dangerous Breakers:
“We know them after we've played them a few times.

“Their team's changed just a little bit with a couple of injuries.

“(But) you know, PJC (Parker Jackson-Cartwright) and [Izaiah] Brockington are two really, really talented players, and they'll have our full focus.

“I think the group's excited for the challenge and then excited to play a home game.”

Breakers coach Petteri Koponen on his team's fight:
"Proud of the group and we've talked about next man up mentality and [last game against Illawarra], everyone stepped in and it was a great team performance.

"It says a lot about this group and everyone wants to show what they can do and use this opportunity, and we have a lot of guys who want to take that next step.

"Sometimes you win, lose, but what you can control is how hard you compete and play hard and not find excuses, and what we showed tonight is that we're still believing and playing for each other."
