"If I could take it back I would … it breaks my heart. If I’m being perfectly honest, it hurts."

It was the brain fade that cost Freddie Gillespie his Round 1 NBL debut and the New Zealand import says he’s now full of regret.

“If I could take it back I would … it breaks my heart. If I’m being perfectly honest, it hurts,” he said.

“I blame myself for it.”

The import was suspended for one game after head-butting Shaun Bruce at the Blitz, and knew he’d made a big mistake straight away.

“It was definitely a poor decision in the moment,” he continued.

“Instantly I was like, ‘I shouldn’t have done that’.”

“It was something I didn’t like in that moment, addressed it with him (Bruce) and he stepped up to me, and just in the moment I just put my head down and was like, ‘get out of my face’.”

The Breakers take on Brisbane in their season-opener on Saturday night at HoopsFest in Perth.
