“I’m always just trying to improve myself and prove to them that I belong here.”

Exciting Next Star and projected lottery pick Dash Daniels, will make history next week by becoming the youngest Boomers debutant since Ben Simmons to represent Australia.

The 17-year-old was selected by Adam Caporn in a youthful squad that has its eyes set on a gold medal at the FIBA Asia Cup in Jeddah.

“It’s super cool, being able to play for the Boomers for the first time is a dream come true,” Daniels told Code Sports.

“It’s one of those goals being ticked off and I can’t wait to get out on the court with the boys in Saudi Arabia.”

The younger brother of Atlanta Hawks star and the NBA’s Most Improved Player Dyson Daniels, has had a busy 2025 as he prepares for his first professional season with Melbourne United.

His debut at the Asia Cup against Korea next week will put him alongside former No.1 NBA draft pick Ben Simmons, who was also 17-years old when he first pulled on the green and gold.

Daniels will join a young team selected by Caporn that is well supported with experience with Olympians, Jack McVeigh and Will Magnay as the veterans of the squad.

“All of these guys have had very successful careers and done some great things with a basketball,” Daniels said. “But I’m confident in my abilities and come in with a lot of confidence, attack every day.

“I’m always just trying to improve myself and prove to them that I belong here.”

The Boomers will kick off their Asia Cup against Korea on Wednesday, 6 August.
