The Perth Wildcats are primed to honour and immortalise the career of club icon Shawn Redhage by retiring his famous number 42.

The Perth Wildcats are primed to honour and immortalise the career of club icon Shawn Redhage, by retiring his famous number 42.

The number will be the seventh retired in the history of the club, and will hang proudly alongside Mike Ellis’ #6, James Crawford’s #7, Scott Fenton’s #14, Ricky Grace’s #15, Andrew Vlahov’s #21 and Scott Fisher’s #30.

Redhage played 380 games for the Wildcats over his career – third all-time for the club – and won four NBL championships and six team MVP awards.

“It’s a huge honour,” Redhage told the Perth Wildcats website.

“The names that are up there with their jerseys retired – to be able to be a part of that club is special.

“I love this club and it’s an honour to be recognised that way.”

Alongside his extensive list of NBL accolades, the Florida-born Redhage became a naturalised Australian and represented the Boomers at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The ceremony will take place at RAC Arena on Friday, January 20 – fittingly just one day before Redhage’s 42nd birthday.

“Shawn is very deserving … to me, he embodies exactly what we want here at the club,” Wildcats legend Andrew Vlahov said.

“He was a team-first kind of guy but was obviously very talented and he deserves to be up in the rafters.

“When you look at what he’s achieved in his time – the championships, the club MVP’s, the time he spent at the club – I couldn’t be prouder of the guy. He’s a fantastic human being.”
