Why Vasiljevic can't wait to take on Euro giants

Sunday, May 18, 2025
"There’ll be people hanging from the roof potentially, so it'll be a great atmosphere."
Playing against two of Europe’s biggest clubs will hold extra-special significance for Adelaide 36ers star Dejan Vasiljevic.
Panathinaikos BC AKTOR of Greece and KK Partizan of Serbia will travel to Sydney to take on the Kings and 36ers as part of the Pavlos Giannakopoulos Tournament in September - with Vasiljevic holding a family connection.
From a proud Serbian family, Vasiljevic can’t wait for the opportunity to face Partizan in particular.
“In my family, it’s all split between Red Star and Partizan, and I just sit somewhere in the middle,” he told the Adelaide 36ers website.
“One hundred per cent, my mum, dad and sister will come (to the games), and there’s a big Serbian community (in Australia) who will travel.
“We're playing in Sydney, so there’ll be 20,000 seats sold out. There’ll be people hanging from the roof potentially, so it'll be a great atmosphere.”
The Sydney Harbour skyline was lit up on Monday night with a one-of-a-kind drone show that was a perfect match for the enormity of the announcement.
Vasiljevic praised the league's initiative in bringing two powerhouse teams to Australia.
“Obviously they’re not just bringing out two European giants, but we’ve also got the New Orleans Pelicans coming the following month, so it's an exciting time for the game of basketball here in Australia - and obviously, we the Adelaide 36ers get to experience games against two of the best clubs in the world,” he added.
Pre-registration for tickets is now open, with those who sign up early given priority access on Monday, May 19. General public tickets will go on sale on Thursday, May 22.
