St Mary’s has a long and proud history of affording Australian players opportunities at the collegiate level, with the likes of former United guard Matthew Dellavedova, South East Melbourne’s Dane Pineau and NBA star and former Melbourne Tiger Patty Mills amongst the program’s recent celebrated alumni.
United will head into the clash with a strong lineup, with the likes of NBL Next Star Ariel Hukporti, veteran Brad Newley, reigning Sixth Man of the Year Shea Illi and young guns David Okwera, Makuach Maluach, Malith Machar and Zac Triplett all set to take to the floor.
The game could also act as Jo Lual-Acuil’s swansong for United, as the centre is set to play in China after three seasons with Melbourne. He recently represented the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Summer League.
Three Australians are set to take to the floor for the travelling side. Perth natives Alex Ducas and Kyle Bowen are joined on the roster by 20-year-old big man Harry Wessels.
Ducas is a known prospect to Australian basketball fans, having represented the Boomers in the recent FIBA Asia Cup.
Other notable inclusions the Gaels' roster are Logan Johnson, brother of Brisbane import Tyler Johnson, and Augustus Marciulionis, son of Lithuanian basketball legend Šarunas Marciulionis.
