The NBL’s new Tasmanian team is pleased to announce the appointment of two-time Hobart Chargers champion Jorrick Chivers as General Manager Operations.

Chivers has enjoyed a long association with Tasmanian basketball. He was a member of the Hobart Chargers’ 2000 and 2002 championship teams and an assistant coach of the Hobart Huskies in the 2019 NBL1 season.

He has a strong basketball pedigree with his father Mark Chivers coach of the Chargers from 1997-2007 and a former general manager of the SEABL.

Chivers has most recently held the position of Business Manager at MacKillop Catholic College in Hobart since 2013. He will start his new role with Team Tasmania next month.

Team Tasmania CEO Simon Brookhouse said: “We are delighted to welcome Jorrick to Team Tasmania.

“The Chivers family has a long association with Tasmanian basketball and Jorrick’s strong operations skills and his basketball background will be

invaluable. We have said we want to appoint Tasmanians where possible and this is a key role that will help lay the foundations for the club.

“We will announce further appointments over the coming weeks and months as the club takes shape and we prepare for our entry into the Hungry Jack’s NBL in the 2021-22 season.”

Chivers said: “Basketball has played a major role in my life and I can’t wait to be involved in the sport again and help grow Tasmania’s new NBL team.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for Tasmania and I look forward to helping to bring the club to life and building a team all Tasmanians can be proud of.”

Team Tasmania will announce the name of the new team on October 1, with the shortlist of names including the Mountaineers, Jack Jumpers, Tridents and Pride. Foundation memberships will also be launched on October 1.
