Illawarra Hawks new signing Peyton Siva has confidently claimed he is one of the best point guards in the basketball world.
Illawarra Hawks new signing Peyton Siva has confidently claimed he is one of the best point guards in the basketball world.
“If I can stay healthy, I feel like I’m one of the best point guards, not only in NBL, but basketball period,” Siva said.
Siva’s self-belief is high and he knows he can help turn the Hawks’ 1-5 season around, on one condition – he stays healthy.
“What I’ve struggled with my whole career is just staying healthy,” he said
“My goal by the end of this year is that I’ve showed that I’m a much better player than I was last year.”
Siva played for the New Zealand Breakers last season, suffering an unfortunate hamstring injury that saw him sidelined for five weeks. Siva played 23 games for the Breakers and has come to the Hawks to prove his improvement from last year.
“I have a lot that I can do, I have a lot more to prove in what I showed last year,” he said.

Siva did his research before signing in Illawarra, turning to basketball friends such as former college teammate Aaron Brooks. Brooks signed with the Hawks in 2019 before tearing his left Achilles tendon early in the season.
“He loved the city, and unfortunately he didn’t get to play as much as he wanted to but he really enjoyed it and his time out here,” Siva said.
Entering mid-season, eyes will be on Siva to see how he adapts to the team and what he can bring to the table.
“I’ve researched a lot of the players to try and look at what they do, who the shooters are on the team, where can I get them the ball, what guys tendencies are, so I tried to do a little bit of research that what and you know, tried to hit the ground running when I got in here,” he said.
Siva will make his debut for the Hawks on Thursday night in their match up against the Brisbane Bullets at 7:30pm AEDT at Nissan Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN via Kayo and Foxtel.
