Phoenix Step Up Coaching Search

The South East Melbourne Phoenix are hopeful of appointing the second head coach in their history within the coming weeks. 

The club is in the process of working through a list of over 25 names, before starting the interview process in the next few days. 

According to the Phoenix website, the "club will look to have the role filled with enough time for the new head coach to have a full run at Free Agency". 

With the Free Agency period officially getting underway from March 30, contracted US-based coaches have been ruled out of the coaching mix. 

That includes five-time NBL Champion Trevor Gleeson, who is tied to the Toronto Raptors in the NBA.

“We are looking for a strong, defensive-minded leader with a proven track record in the recruitment and development of talent, to lead us in our pursuit of our first Championship,” CEO Tommy Greer said. 

Simon Mitchell stepped down from the Phoenix coaching role in late February, having been at the club since 2018.
