Phoenix confirm Cummings import replacement

Wednesday, December 13, 2023
South East Melbourne has confirmed 200-game NBA veteran as its newest import for the remainder of the season.
South East Melbourne has wasted no time in filling its vacant import spot left by the departure of Will Cummings, and has signed 200-game NBA veteran Abdel Nader for the remainder of the season.
The 30-year-old most recently played with the Phoenix Suns in 2022, and featured in the NBA playoffs as recently as 2021.
The 196-centimetre small forward was selected with the 58th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, and was named D-League Rookie of the Year in his first ever professional season at the end of 2017.
He spent time with the Celtics, Thunder and Suns during a half-decade stint in the NBA.
Nader will touch down in Melbourne on Thursday to complete his physicals. His arrival will see Kody Stattmann return to the development player list.
“Mid-season roster changes, although difficult, provide great opportunity,” Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said. “We believe Abdel will bring great experience, talent and competitiveness on both ends of the floor.
“He possesses all the skills required to be a great complement to the roster we currently have.”
The Phoenix released import guard Will Cummings from their roster last week, and will next face Melbourne United on Thursday – the day Nader is due to touch down.
