NBL1 Wrap (July 8, 2024)

NBL players are front and centre, suiting up for a multitude of teams across the NBL1.

Latest Melbourne United signing, Akech Aliir was a clear standout from a sea of NBL players across the five conferences. The United DP scored a combined 65 points on the weekend with NBL1 South's Mount Gambier Pioneers. Producing double-doubles in both games, Aliir finished on 30 points and 10 rebounds in game one, and 35 points and 13 rebounds in game two.

The Pioneers defeated Kyle Bowen and Tasmania JackJumpers' new Development Player Brody Nunn's Knox Raiders by eight points. Bowen produced 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Nunn tallied five points and two rebounds. He performed better in game two, with 14 points and four rebounds against Geelong.

The Sandringham Sabres and their United trio unfortunately fell short to the Ballarat Miners, but still put up some strong numbers to narrow the margin. Tanner Krebs top-scored and racked up 22 points and seven rebounds, with both DP's Tom Koppens (13pts, 7reb) and Campbell Blogg (18pts, 14reb) also producing impactful numbers.

Up North, the Adelaide 36ers' Jason Cadee starred for the Rollers with 28 points, seven rebounds and five assists against Sam McDaniel and Matthew Johns' Brisbane Capitals. McDaniel finished on 19 points and six rebounds, while Johns delivered 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Mackay Meteors earned themselves a powerful win over the Cairns Marlins, with Hawks veteran Todd Blanchfield starring with 31 points and ten rebounds. Teammate Isaac White also scored 31 to go with five rebounds.

Marlins' Kian Dennis tallied 13 points and five rebounds, while Alex Mudronja finished with 11 points and four rebounds.

Adelaide's Alex Starling was a powerhouse in NBL1 Central with two double-doubles. In game one he shot 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against the Eastern Mavericks. He followed that momentum with 19 points and 13 rebounds over the Norwood Flames.

The West Adelaide Bearcats were rapt with the return of JackJumpers' champions Anthony Drmic (6pts, 4reb) and Fabijan Krslovic (23pts, 17reb), while the Taipans' Akoldah Gak produced 18 points and eight rebounds for the Bearcats.
