Only two conferences had the opportunity to take the court in the Coles Express NBL1 this weekend, but NBL1 North and NBL1 West both welcomed NBL debutants.
In NBL1 North, Brisbane Bullets fans got their first look at Kiwi recruit Jack Salt, as he notched up 10 points and eight rebounds for the Northside Wizards.
Salt also had the opportunity to play alongside an NBL star point guard in Mitch McCarron, as he led the way for the Wizards with 15 points, 11 rebounds and six assists against Red City as well as 21 points, nine boards and nine dimes against Tanner Krebs’ USC.
Tanner Krebs continues to show his potential for the Brisbane Bullets with two 30+ point games over the weekend.
The biggest storyline of NBL1 North came on Friday night when Cairns Taipans human highlight reel Majok Deng created a new league scoring record with a huge 46 points and 16 rebounds.
Deng managed to back up his efforts against Sam Froling’s Townsville on Sunday with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Froling notched up 30 points and 11 boards in his side’s loss.
The NBL1 West debutant was Perth Wildcats talent Corey Shervill, who scored 17 points for the Lakeside Lightning in their win over Joondalup.
On Sunday, Mandurah’s Scott Machado had his best haul of the season with 37 points, four rebounds and four assists against the Goldfields Giants.
