NBL Quintet Headline South Sudan Squad

Five NBL players have been named in the South Sudanese national team ahead of the nation’s FIBA World Cup Qualification games against Senegal, DR Congo and Egypt.

Cairns duo Bul Kuol and Majok Deng lead the league’s contingent, while Adelaide’s Sunday Dech and Deng Acuoth and Illawarra’s Deng Deng have also been named.

South Sudan currently leads its group halfway through the qualification period with eight wins and one loss from nine games.

Their first opponents of the round – Senegal – sit third with six wins, while Egypt sit second with seven wins.

DR Congo has picked up four wins from its nine games so far.

The only loss South Sudan has suffered in this stage of qualifying was a three-point loss to Senegal in August.

Bul Kuol and Sunday Dech starred in the loss with 16 and 13 points respectively, but San Antonio centre Gorgui Deng proved too strong for the side in the 69-66 defeat.
