“The response to these games has been nothing short of phenomenal with more than 51,000 people signing up to secure a seat,” NBL CEO David Stevenson said.
“These games and events will sell out, there’s no doubt about it. If you want to witness the NBA live in Australia for the first time, now’s the time to act.
“I’d like to thank the NBA and the New Orleans Pelicans for allowing us to host an NBA team in Australia, and to Visit Victoria, playing a huge role in giving fans a chance to witness the Pelicans in Melbourne going up against United and the Phoenix, who we also extend our thanks to for their support in this historic moment.”
Stevenson said the strong demand and interest reflects Australia’s growing passion for basketball and the NBA’s deepening connection with fans down under.
“Australia has the most passionate basketball fans in the world. Bringing the Pelicans here to face two of the NBL’s best is going to create an incredible moment for sport in this country. It’s going to be a celebration on a scale we’ve never seen before.
“The anticipation we are witnessing for these events shows just how strong the game is in Australia, and it's growing at an unprecedented rate. The NBL is the fastest growing sporting league in the country and we have no intentions of slowing down.
“It’s an exciting time for basketball fans, and we’re committed to bringing even more incredible experiences to our supporters in the months and years to come.”
