The search for Team Tasmania’s name ahead of its entry to the Hungry Jack’s National Basketball League (NBL) in the 2021/22 season is down to three after the Mountaineers were eliminated.

Earlier this month the NBL revealed the five shortlisted names for Team Tasmania, after receiving almost 10,000 nominations from the Tasmanian public. With the Timbers and Mountaineers now out of the running, the remaining shortlist of names for the new team are:

  • Tasmania Tridents
  • Tasmania Pride
  • Tasmania Jack Jumpers

Team Tasmania CEO Simon Brookhouse said: “The excitement around Tasmania’s entry to the NBL is growing by the day and today we move another step closer to revealing the team’s name with the elimination of the Mountaineers.

“Our passionate fans continue to share their opinions and we are enjoying listening to their feedback. We are now down to three names and next week we will announce the final two ahead of the reveal of the name on October 1.”

Team Tasmania has enlisted the services of brand and design agency SouthSouthWest led by creative director and Tasmanian Andy Sargent to help bring the name and brand of the new team to life.

Foundation Memberships for the new team will also be launched on October 1 with Tasmanians able to purchase these ahead of the team’s entry into the Hungry Jack’s NBL as the league’s 10th team for the 2021/22 Season.
