Cairns Taipans star Tahjere McCall has revealed why he initiated a players only meeting after the club’s loss to Adelaide last weekend.

The Taipans have lost seven of their last eight games and are at the bottom of the ladder, which forced McCall to call for the group to have a heart-to-heart chat with each other.

“I just felt terrible after the game, I always say what I feel and how I feel. I don’t like having hidden agendas or people not understanding the aura of the room,” McCall said to media.

"I just felt that way about how we've been performing. Especially for the team, for the Club, for the fans. We haven’t been performing the best we can perform, let alone wins and losses.

"We haven't been putting forth the best effort that we should every day. It’s a blessing to do this job and we’re taking it for granted, and we're just out there  so we just need to have a different attitude.”

McCall added Cairns has no choice but to play better, as nobody is satisfied with the current situation.

“Things have got to change, there’s no sugar-coating it. We look bad, we’re playing bad, our record is bad. It’s not a good feeling to be in this position, I don’t like being in this position and the team doesn’t, so eventually something has to change and it starts with us on the court” he said.

The Taipans will look to get their season back on track tomorrow night in the Sunshine Stoush against the Brisbane Bullets. Tip-off is at 7:30pm AEDT on ESPN via Kayo and Foxtel.
