Derek Rucker is urging the Bullets to have patience with Schueller, amidst their slow start.

The Brisbane Bullets will travel to Melbourne on Saturday night to take on the Phoenix, where one team will leave with the first win of their season.

With the Bullets currently 0-3, there’s been a lot of heat on the team and head coach Justin Schueller, which Derek Rucker believes is unwarranted.

“The Bullets right now, they’re all about building a foundation,” Rucker said on NBL Now.

“They’re doing it off the court. Now they’ve got to empower the coach.”

Brisbane has faced double-digit deficits in each of its opening three games, but found a way to claw back late and make a charge.

“I 100 per cent believe in this group and I know what the potential is,” Schueller said post game after the loss to Sydney.

“But potential is the most dangerous word around.”

Rucker has thrown his support behind Schueller and believes the club needs to back in their head coach for the foreseeable future.

“I don’t think there should be any concern over his stability,” Rucker said.

“I think the Bullets need to let Justin sit in there for anywhere from three to five years. Who else are you going to get?

“He’s only got kind of his roster this season ... let him sit in there and figure it out over the course of three to five years if he’s capable.”
