Former NBL coach joins Dallas Mavericks

Former New Zealand Breakers coach Mody Maor lands an assistant coaching role with the Dallas Mavericks for the 2026-27 NBA season.

The NBL's ties to the NBA continue to get stronger with a former head coach joining the Dallas Mavericks' staff for the 2026-27 season.

According to ESPN's Marc J. Spears, former New Zealand Breakers coach Mody Maor will act as an assistant on Dusty May's NBA staff.

Maor, who coached 67 games for the Breakers across the NBL23 and NBL24 seasons, joins Willie Green, Garrett Temple, Joe Boylan, Drew Williamson, Rob Fodor and Sam Hershberger as Mavericks' assistant coaches this season.

The coaching staff will also include Tyson Chandler and Quincy Acy, who are set to return in their player development roles with the franchise.

During his time in the Hungry Jack's NBL, Maor, who was also an assistant with New Zealand for three seasons, guided the Breakers to the 2022-23 Championship Series, which they lost in five games to Sydney.

Since his time in New Zealand, Maor has been the coach of Nagasaki Velca in the Japanese B.League.
