After more than 800 NBA appearances, Joe Ingles is returning to the NBL with his sights firmly set on another championship.

He boasts more than 800 games' NBA experience and is one of Australia's finest ever players, but Joe Ingles has no intention of settling in for a cushy retirement. In fact, he's more eager than ever to play and prove he deserves minutes in a new-look Melbourne United team.

Speaking to media on Monday, Ingles said he's here to win.

"The motivation as an athlete, as a player, is there," he said.

"And that was the biggest part of when those kinds of discussions came … I want to play. I want to compete and I want to win.

"Last time I played in this League, I left with a championship in my last game and that's the goal for the next two years - to win."

Ingles' maiden NBL championship with the South Dragons was way back in 2009.

He's had an incredible overseas career since, but says he won't be trying to influence United's search for a coach, or the shape of its roster moving forward. He simply wants to play his role.

"I don't want this to be a Joe Ingles show of like 'I picked the coach and I picked the imports' - it's not what I'm here to do," Ingles said.

"(I'm) more than happy to help in any way, but I'm not going to go out and tell them what to do."

Ingles says he can't wait to play alongside great mate Chris Goulding, in a side that will look very different to what it has been in United's recent Finals campaigns.

"(I've) obviously played with him for a long time … more obviously (with the) national team. A few off-seasons here working out when we have come back. We've always stayed in contact whether we were with the Boomers or not for the summers," Ingles continued.

"Playing with him (Goulding) was something I wanted to do.

"Obviously last year for him with injuries and stuff was a little bit tough and a part of it for me is helping him. Obviously if you can get him the ball in a good position he's a pretty high percentage chance he's going to make the shot.

"So along with Sam (Waardenburg) and Shea (Ili) and all these guys, I'm not here to try and win MVP and take every shot and dominate the ball and do anything … for me it's about winning.

"The contingent of players we've got already is very good and we're going to build on that once we get a coach and imports."
