Kings import on the way

Sydney coach Chase Buford has dropped a hint that the Kings have an import coming to replace the injured RJ Hunter.

“We are looking to bring an import in…probably get some news on that soon,” Buford said.

Cooks should be in MVP conversation

Buford says Xavier Cooks should “for sure” be in the MVP conversation, praising his performance after last night’s win over South East Melbourne.

“I’ve run out of superlatives to describe X’s performances these days. He does so much for us on both sides. Defensively, offensively, changes the game with his energy, with his playmaking. He’s a terrific player. For me, he is a runaway Defensive Player of the Year,” Buford said.

Phoenix let themselves down

Stand-in Phoenix coach Judd Flavell says South East Melbourne let themselves down in last night’s loss to Sydney.

“It was pretty messy, we had our chances. Some of that is probably certain personnel being played out of position, but, ultimately, I thought we did enough in those first three quarters, just that fourth quarter we’ll look back upon. It was still within our hands (to win) … we let ourselves down,” Flavell said via the Herald Sun.

Wildcats hopeful of ending season at home

Perth Wildcats CEO Troy Georgiu says the club is hopeful of ending the season at home after the NBL announced Rounds 14-15 this morning, which included Perth’s 14th away game on March 14.

“Our intention is to remain on the road and complete our quota of away games. That will allow us not to have to travel again until hopefully finals,” Georgiu told The West Australian.

United doesn’t feel sorry for Wildcats

United coach Dean Vickerman says Melbourne doesn’t feel any sympathy for the Perth Wildcats who are on an extended road trip due to the WA border controls.

“I don’t feel for them at all. Everybody went through periods of being away last year,” Vickerman said ahead of tomorrow night’s Grand Final rematch between the two sides.

JackJumpers not surprised

The Tasmania JackJumpers aren’t surprising themselves with their recent success according to import Josh Adams.

“To say we are surprised our shots are going in is the furthest thing from the truth. We have a great group of guys that are great shooters, great basketball players, and it was only a matter of time before these shots started to fall,” Adams said via The Mercury.

Something “special” building in Tasmania

Tasmania import Adams says the JackJumpers are building a special culture in their inaugural season.

“I could go down the list, everyone is extremely positive and we’ve created a bond here that is pretty special, especially given the short time,” Adams said via The Advocate.
