Hawks silencing the doubters

Illawarra assistant coach Jacob Jackomas says the constant doubters around the team has made them get back to playing Hawks basketball.

“We’ve been great at that ever since people started to write us off and thinking we’re not as good as they first predicted. I think we just played like ourselves and we played with each other, and the swag thing is just like a word I use I guess because I’m younger than Goorj,” Jackomas said via Fox Sports.

Wildcats win sets bar for Kings

Sydney Kings import Ian Clark says the club’s big win over Perth has set the bar for the rest of the season.

“This was one of the best games we’ve played and we have set the bar for ourselves. I think if we continue to do this down the road we’ll be OK,” Clark said via Fox Sports.

Jawai battling

Cairns Taipans coach Adam Forde has revealed Nate Jawai is battling numerous niggles to stay on the court.

“He’s battling through heaps, he’s not 100 per cent. He’s really sore, we went over on his minutes last game with the idea that we thought he could stay with what we wanted to do on Sunday,” Forde said via the Cairns Post.

French Breakers growing connection

New Zealand Breakers youngster Hugo Besson says having fellow Frenchman Ousmane Dieng by his side during the season has helped him get through the season.

“That’s pretty helpful to have Ousmane by my side. We have a really great feeling on and off the court and it’s helped me a lot to have him over here as well so we’re not alone in what we are going through. It’s pretty good to have Ousmane next to me this whole time,” Besson said via Fox Sports.

How Coenraad helps Hawks

Veteran forward Tim Coenraad has helped the Hawks adjust to the small ball style of basketball according to Illawarra assistant coach Jacob Jackomas.

“He gives us that stretch four capability and the league's changed a lot. There's a lot of small ball, a lot of NBA influence with some of the American coaches that are coming in and Timmy helps us fill that role, that small alignment and it doesn't hurt us defensively,” Jackomas said via the Illawarra Mercury.
