Trice replacement at Hawks “within a week”

After releasing Travis Trice, the Illawarra Hawks will lock in his replacement “within a week” according to Mitch Jennings of the Illawarra Mercury.

"We've got four or five guys that are interested and want to come,” coach Brian Goorjian said.

"With all these preseason games going on in the NBA, teams are making cuts. Before we pull one we're finding out more about them because some of them are playing as we speak, and other ones are falling off (NBA rosters).”

McCall has DPOY potential

Cairns Taipans import Tahjere McCall has all the tools to become this season’s Defensive Player of the Year, according to his new coach Adam Forde.

“Tahj is going to be an early candidate for defensive player of the year,” Forde said, via The Cairns Post.

“Whoever he’s going to be matched up on in practice is only going to become a better offensive player for it.”

$132M facelift for basketball centre

The plans for the State Basketball Centre’s $132 million dollar makeover have been revealed, with 12 new indoor courts and high performance facilities, via the Herald Sun.

Expected to be open in 2023, the State Basketball Centre is planned to become the admin base for the South East Melbourne Phoenix, Basketball Australia, Basketball Victoria, Knox Basketball and the WNBL’s Melbourne Boomers.

Ebzery calls time on stellar career

Perth Lynx captain Katie Ebzery has shocked the WNBL world by announcing her retirement.

Ebzery has won the last three Lynx MVP awards, was a member of last season’s All-WNBL Team and played for the Opals at the Tokyo Olympics.
